Sustainability at Hotel San Cristóbal

The San Cristóbal Hotel has taken on the commitment of maintaining a Quality and Environment Management System for its accommodation, dining and events organisation services, based on the requirements of the UNE 182001:2008 and ISO 14001:2015.

The hotel´s management defines and manages the policy as an integral part of its processes and services, guaranteeing the continuous improvement of the effectiveness of the management system. This Policy is considered as a framework of reference for establishing and reviewing the management system´s objectives and goals.

According to these principles, the following commitments are assumed:

· To get to know , our customers, taking advantage of the opportunity to gain their loyalty and treat them as our guests.

· To commit to meet all current Quality and Environment standards and legislation, and to be proactive in continuous improvement in order to improve environmental performance.

· Protecting the environment: environmental protection, preventing contamination and exhaustion of resources are included in all activities that could have a potential effect on the Environment, by controlling, managing and minimising any waste that may be generated during the course of our activity.

· Develop and promote a true culture of sustainability, raising awareness among external and internal customers with the aim of creating more responsible and charitable surroundings.

· Achieve a working environment that allows staff to develop their skills.

This Quality and Environment Policy is reviewed by the management on an annual basis. It is sent to all hotel employees and is available to be accessed by any external person who wishes to do so.

The company is committed to protecting the environment and preventing contamination. It has also taken on a range of specific commitments relevant to the organisation´s context.

Operational principles

· RESPECT for legal regulations in effect and the commitments undertaken by the company.

· AGREE ON the mechanisms required to guarantee adherence to Environmental Policy, analysing the results obtained.

· RAISE AWARENESS amongst all of the organisation’s components with regard to respect for the environment.

· PROVIDE the client with the information required to communicate our values and our commitment to the environment.

· INFORM our suppliers and subcontractors of our product use and selection criteria, as regards the environment.

In order to reduce our environmental impact, Hotel San Cristóbal has implemented the following measures as part of our management procedures:

Water and energy

• LED, low consumption lighting.
• Light sensors in communal areas.
• Partial flush in toilets.
• Flow reducers with sprays on taps.
• Towel change signs in rooms.

Procurement:

• Local providers.
• Promotion of natural, fresh and seasonal produce.
• In bulk, we avoid purchasing by portion and excessive packaging.

Equipment:

• Installation of solar panels that contribute to water heating.
• Installation of shampoo and body gel dispensers in showers, to avoid the use of individual packaging.

Waste:

• Separation and control of solid and organic waste.
• Separation and donation of kitchen oils for the creation of soap tablets.
• Reduction of IT equipment and centralisation of printers.

CO2 Emissions:

• Analysis and quantification of the carbon emissions generated both directly and indirectly by Hotel San Cristóbal.
